Nearly 100 percent of food waste through the composted end-product is utilized by the Grounds Department for campus landscaping, and composting has been added to the Environmental Science curriculum. Starting with spring 2009 semester, all of the College’s dining services locations utilize fully compostable packaging and cutlery. Earth Tubs, small-scale, self-contained composting systems, are located at Bushkill Commons. At the 2010 Graduation, students wore compostable graduation gowns and caps which were collected, shredded and composted in the Earth Tubs located at Bushkill Commons. Made of 100 percent acetate material, the fabric is made from wood sourced exclusively from renewable, managed forests and decomposes in the soil in one year. Curious? Composting facility tours are conducted with peer institution group discussions by request.
